Vimar patented The SICURY safety shutter, in 1968, which is an automatic mechanism that closes the holes in the socket outlet when the plug is removed; this stops foreign bodies from being inserted, preventing accidental contact with live parts. The Vimar invention became a market standard, offered the right to use the SICURY patent to the entire market free of charge, which was then implemented by all the players in the electrical sector.
